This follow-up to the successful New York Public Library Desk Reference (Prentice Hall, 1993. 2d ed.) covers the historical and contemporary worlds of dance, theater, and music with an international scope. It provides addresses of organizations, short biographies, definitions of technical terms, and lists of events of interest. Unfortunately, the coverage is uneven. Why, for example, include the Grammy Awards back to 1958 but only the last four years' Tony Awards? Why include only two of the Country Music Association awards? Save for some useful directory information, details are neglected throughout (e.g., exact birth and death dates rather than just years), and use of the index is mandatory. Librarians will almost always rather turn to another book on a specific area (or even the World Almanac in some instances) for more detailed information. This may be of value to the individual who does not already have the various standard references found in libraries.
