About the Author
Don Michael Randel was for many years Professor of Music at Cornell University. He is now Professor of Music and President of the University of Chicago.

The present volume, prepared by 70 noted scholars under Randel's capable editorship, contains mostly new entries; the scope has been greatly expanded to include better coverage of recent music.
