Italian photographer David Maria Galardi found his medium with the Rotocamera, a device that takes high-quality color photographs shooting a full circle around itself from a fixed position. When Galardi photographed New York City, he produced stunning 360 [degree] panoramas of the most exciting and cosmopolitan city on earth. New York 360 [degrees] brings together ten of these photographs and presents them as spectacular three- or four-page gatefold pullouts. Presented here with Galardi's other work, taken with a more conventional camera, they show off New York at its best: Brooklyn Bridge by day and night, the shop fronts of Fifth Avenue, the towering skyscrapers of midtown, the World Trade Center, the urban parks and open spaces, New York Harbor and the South Street Seaport, MOMA and Yankee Stadium. There are 104 photographs in all, suitably grand in scale and often presenting new ways of looking at familiar sights. Each of the pictures is accompanied by an explanatory caption that gives something of the history of the particular scene or landmark and its place in New York's architectural pattern.
