Synopsis
Under the editorship of Jesse B. Jupiter, 93 authors from four continents have contributed to this high-quality textbook. Its 63 chapters are grouped into sections: the introduction; wounds of the upper extremity; tendon injuries and tendon transfers; joint derangements in the wrist and hand; nerve injuries and derangements; amputations and reimplantations; microsurgery; vascular, reflex, and compression disorders; burns and frostbite of the upper extremity; bacteriology and infections; and contractures and tumors. These sections cover not only various diseases and injuries, but also complications due to disease, injury, and treatment. Two sections deal exclusively with techniques, but it is unclear why such a structure was chosen. For example, microsurgery could well have been incorporated into the sections on tendons and nerves.
