PreSchool-Grade 2 The theme of losing and finding things is a good subject for young children, but this book takes a simplistic approach to that theme. Boys and girls of various ethnic groups describe how they lost and found treasured objectsa cat, a purple sweater, a jigsaw puzzle piece, a ball, and a friend. The book leaves children with the impression that when something is lost, it is quickly and easily found. There is no mention of searching to find what is lost, or of the possibility that the object may never be found. Objects simply appear, whenever. Illustrations are very bold and big, done in heavy pen drawings filled in with muted tones. These pictures, which are far more successful than the text, convey familiar objects and situations as seen through the eyes of a child. A better book on this theme is Dahlov Ipcar's Lost and Found (Doubleday, 1981; o.p.). Carol McMichael, Greenfield Pub . Lib . , Ind.
