About the Author
Lorna Balian was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Layton School of Art (now Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design). While raising her six children, Lorna became interested in illustrating books for children and decided to write and illustrate books herself. Lorna has had a long and celebrated career as a favorite author and illustrator of classic books for children.
Review
Mrs. Gumm finds a turkey egg and raises the turkey, which she fattens up for Thanksgiving dinner. When the time comes, she invites the turkey to join her for dinner instead of eating it. This likable, gently humorous story was originally published in 1973 with three-color illustrations. --Horn Book Guide
