From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2 Children used to Garfield, Kliban felines, or Pickles the Fire Cat will find these greeting card cats unmemorable. In this collection of traditional cat rhymes, Mother Goose is an amiable senior citizen who wears granny glasses and holds her pet goose on a ribbon leash. Her house is a thatched cottage, scene of the double wedding at which Pussicat marries a nattily dressed dog and mouse marries the humble bee. Her neighbors occupy a crooked house and a one room school among other rustic buildings. Illustrations interpret the rhymes literally so that otherwise obscure verses usually become more accessible. However, the St. Ives riddle points out the difficulty of this realism: a road sign points to St. Ives. Mother Goose and a flannel shirted hiker are turned in its direction, prompting a child to answer "two" instead of "one" to the question of how many were going to St. Ives. Details and backgrounds of these full-color watercolors are chosen to project old-fashioned qualities, warmth, and above all, cuteness. Anna Biagioni Hart, Sherwood Regional Library, Alexandria, Va.

From Publishers Weekly:
Mother Goose rhymes will always remain nursery favorites, and Lucas's selections of cat-related rhymes make delightful lap read-alouds for infants, toddlers and young cat lovers. "Hey, my kitten, my kitten,/ And hey, my kitten, my deary!/ Such a sweet pet as this/ Is neither far nor neary" opens the book with the warm and lilting, antiquated language that still charms contemporary children. Lucas blends such familiar feline rhymes as "Pussy cat, Pussy cat, where have you been?" and "Ding, dong, bell, pussy's in the well!" with others less known but equally endearing. Newsom's cozy watercolors have homespun appeal and are filled with calico fabrics, glowing woodfires on the hearth and woodland country cottages. It's great fun to follow an amiable, old-timey Mother Goose and her very sociable goose-companion through dinners, teas and a final joy-filled wedding party in this unique collection.
