PreSchool-K ``Three extraordinary elephants,'' ``Four outlandish orangutans,'' ``Eight prancing ponies'' march along with the other animals in this circus parade of numbers. Each number is presented on a double-page spread with the digit boldly visible in the upper right-hand corner. Corresponding alliterative phrases appear at the bottom of this page with the number word printed in red. Although bright, energetic cartoon illustrations convey a sense of bouncy comedy throughout, their very liveliness tends toward clutter that detracts from the focus of the bookcounting. A four-foot-long frieze, showing the animals and word numbers ``on parade'' is attached at the end. This feature may limit the book's utility as a circulating item, but would make a nice classroom or library display.
