The author of A Winning Thoroughbred Strategy (Cynthia Pub. Co., 1985) and Thoroughbred Handicapping As An Investment (Cynthia Pub. Co., 1986), presents refined formulas and charts here that he claims can bring a 20 percent return on investment. This is not an easy-win situation, and extensive, serious study will be involved. The idea is not that every race will be won, but that risk management techniques will result in profitability over the long run. A prior knowledge of handicapping is essential. Beginners should start with William L. Quirin's Thoroughbred Handicapping: State of the Art (Morrow, 1984) or James Quinn's The Best of Thoroughbred Handicapping ( LJ 10/15/87). An optional purchase.
