An object (or bird or animal) pictured on a flap shares one small element with a rhyming object found under the flap--the nib of a pen, for example, on a below-the-flap illustration forms a hen's beak on the overlaid picture. In like manner, the one-word identifications are transformed via flaps: the first letter of "hat" lifts up to spell "cat." (And a part of the chapeau's brim becomes the tip of kitty's tail.)
