Caron Lee Cohen is the author of many picture books including Where's the Fly? illustrated by Nancy Barnet and How Many Fish? illustrated by S.D. Schindler. She lives in New York City.

PreSchool-Grade 2?In this book about perspectives, the art moves from a closeup of a fly on a dog's nose to the planet Earth ("Where's the ocean? On the earth."). Neatly executed with colored pencils, the pictures lure readers onward. Opposite each full-page illustration is a strip of tiny objects to look for in the picture. Each time a page is turned, an object is added to reflect something in the new illustration. Lately there has been a spate of books dealing with perspective, but this one is simple enough for young children, in contrast, for instance, to Istvan Banyai's Zoom and Re-Zoom (both Viking, 1995). The format of Cohen's title is spacious and spare, with plenty of white space adding to the feeling of expanding horizons. However, the colored-pencil medium lends a softness to the art that in one or two spots makes it difficult to discern the objects to be found.
