Coup portrays the devastating effect of repression on the families of two sisters in the wake of the Colonels' Coup of 1967. Chryssa's husband, Vangelis, seeks to bring the junta into the courts, were he hopes to use its own laws to limit its excesses. At first the government plays with him; then it sends him to prison. Trying to find him, Chryssa is confronted by the massive indifference of the regime. Kiki's husband, Leonidas, climbs to influence by pandering to the officers, but ends up backing the wrong faction. His son turns away from him in disgust. One loses his freedom, the other his son; but both are reduced to impotence by this terrible regime. A compelling story, told with elegance and compassion.
