Grade 6-8 Another in Newman's series featuring Andrew, Sara, and Inspector Peter Wyatt of Scotland Yard. Earlier books in the series have been rich in 19th-Century details but short on believable plots. Newman's newest, however, has the proper period atmosphere, the usual colorful and distinctive characters, plus a fast-moving plot with a number of clever twists and turns. Add a rip-snorting climax and the result is one of the best books in the series. Sara and Andrew's antique dealer friend, Beasley, is in some kind of mysterious trouble, and the two are eager to help. The children soon find themselves pitted against members of the Thuggee, a murderous Indian cult who worship the blood-thirsty goddess Kali. The Thugs are after Beasley for information he has, and Sara, Andrew, and their friends must find him before the vicious cult members do. Interesting and suspenseful all the way.
