The poems cover such topics as best friends (in the longer, title poem), pets, nature, and a secret place. Each poem describes these moments in a contemporary realistic manner that seems rather commonplace and matter-of-fact. Most librarians may find that the friendship selections in The Random House Book of Poetry for Children (Random, 1983) and Time for Poetry (Scott, Foresman, 1968) are more useful and have broader appeal.
