Grade 9 Up–In this novelization of the movie by the same name, six unlikely students band together to steal the answers to the SATs. Kyle, the mastermind of the plan, desperately wants to attend Cornell University to become an architect. Matty needs to receive at least 1000 on his SATs so he can join his girlfriend at college. Desmond's athletic scholarship is in jeopardy while Anna, who maintains a 4.0 GPA, is unable to score what is needed to attend Brown University. The group is rounded out by Roy, the smart stoner, and Francesca, whose father owns the building where ETS, the agency in charge of the SAT, is housed. By book's end, they all realize that there are more important things in life than high SAT scores and they individually choose not to cheat. Each chapter in this quick read is told from a different student's viewpoint. That, combined with the cover and pictures from the movie, will tempt even the most reluctant readers. Unfortunately, the book's appeal is likely to fade when the film leaves the theaters. For a book about colleges and SATs, Laurie Halse Anderson's Catalyst (Viking, 2002) is a must-have for YA collections.–Angela M. Boccuzzi, Merton Williams' Middle School, Hilton, NY
