About the Author

Rodney “Batman” Batiste is an 8th degree black belt, and has held the USA and World Middleweight Championship titles of the Professional Karate Association and the National Karate Association respectively. Master Batiste has over 40 years of teaching experience, and is the recipient of several teaching and community service awards. “Bat” has trained hundreds of black belts, as well as some notable celebrities, including AOL CEO emeritus James V. Kimsey, Congresswomen Jane Harman (former U.S. representative for California’s 36 congressional district), Sidney Harman of Harman enterprises, Mary Wells of the Supremes, Richard Trumka (President of the AFL-CIO) and Warren Teitelbaum CEO of Mattress Discounters. In the early 80’s, when Master Batiste first conceived his DAGPAW concept, it was so well received that he was contracted by then Mayor Marion Barry to tour Washington D.C. doing seminars and lectures as part of his roaming leaders program; Ivan Labray of the Capitols and Wes Unsel of the Bullets were also part of the program. In 1985 Master Batiste founded WCRB On-site Karate, the DC Area’s premier provider of On-site martial arts services. Because of his unique DAGPAW teaching method and skills, and his organization’s scope and method of instruction, his organization is awarded a wide range of teaching contracts annually from local and nationally recognized childcare facilities.
