Don't wait until you reach success to become happier! Most of us are relatively happy, but we are also aware of a deep sense that we could be happier. We believe happiness will come when we reach certain goals in our lives like getting married, buying a new home, getting a raise, a promotion, or a new job. So we forego a little happiness today and this week so we can reach those goals sooner. Our challenge is the days and weeks turn into months and years. The goals we thought would make us happy turn out to be just milestones on a long journey, and our happiness does not materialize like we had hoped. Happiness in the form of a deep sense of contentment, satisfaction, and fulfillment seems to be missing. This book will help by providing a clear plan on how to choose happiness and then leverage that happiness to become even more successful. Don’t spend your life chasing success and hoping for happiness, learn how to connect happiness and success. Connecting Happiness and Success is a guide to creating Success through Happiness. It includes 4 concepts you can implement to become happier and 3 concepts that teach you how to leverage that happiness to be successful. It includes practical applications, examples and activities. From the Foreword: Ray White is now providing clarity on the connection between happiness and success like no one ever has before. His book will not only give you a distinct advantage in your professional pursuits, but, more importantly, in that most elusive pursuit of all … the pursuit of happiness. So many people go to great lengths to be successful, believing that from success comes happiness. Some cheat their health in exchange for wealth. Others shortchange relationships as they chase down promotions. In the name of “success,” many miss life altogether, its lessons, its experiences and its simple pleasures. In this book, Ray shows that happiness actually comes before success, not after it. He spells out how the two are eternally bound, and he walks you through a methodology that will change the way you think about success, and life. Ray lives a life of clarity and conviction. The pages before you make this abundantly clear. His research, experiences and approach are both unique and refreshing. From understanding the differences between pleasure and happiness, to identifying your unique and higher purpose, to defining success in a way that you have never attempted before, this book is a powerfully inspirational gift to anyone who reads it. As you read each page, commit to putting the principles and guidance to use. Let them catapult your results, to another level. Let this be the day that you made happiness a powerful priority. Ray White is a master of simplicity. He clearly explains the relationship between happiness and success and debunks the lifelong myth that happiness can only be attained after reaching an illusive point of success. This is a book that will help anyone whether they are a fortune 500 CEO or a student attending high school. A true gift that will keep on giving. Ali Merchant, Gap Inc.
I believe success begins with clarity.
In my book Strategic Acceleration, I establish the three-part foundation for succeeding at the speed of life: Clarity, Focus and Execution. Everything begins with a clear vision, and nothing excels without it. You may have laser-like focus, and your execution may be unparalleled, but if there is not clarity on where to apply those efforts, your efforts are wasted.
Another principle I've discovered over the past 30 years of working with some of the world's highest achievers is that those who live the most fulfilling lives are those who don't sacrifice happiness for success, but rather leverage their happiness to help fuel their success. They view happiness as a strategic asset, and they are deliberate about building a life that helps them do what uniquely makes them happy. They excel in the areas of clarity, focus and execution, and they apply them toward goals that make them happy.
Ray White is now providing clarity on the connection between happiness and success like no one ever has before. What you hold in your hands will not only give you a distinct advantage in your professional pursuits, but, more importantly, in that most elusive pursuit of all ... the pursuit of happiness.

Debut author and businessman White presents a practical guide to connecting happiness and success.
White, a business leadership coach, develops a clear theme in this how-to book: “Success doesn’t lead to happiness. Happiness leads to success.” The things we think will make us happier often don’t, he adds. Indeed, White says, Americans today confuse pleasure with happiness and are losing the ability to identify and maintain lasting happiness. His book aims to help people understand the connection between happiness and success by exploring seven key topics—differentiating between pleasure and happiness; taking control of one’s life; building positive relationships; seeking a higher purpose; defining success; clarifying and prioritizing goals; and implementing goals with discipline. According to White, happy people feel autonomous, practice gratitude, live in the moment, maintain positive relationships, practice kindness, pursue a purpose larger than self and connect meaning with their work. The last few chapters emphasize the importance of defining success, writing down one’s goals and realizing that success “is something we work on every day.” The book capably surveys many of the works of the top thinkers in the field, and although it lacks footnotes, it includes a good bibliography at the end. It is practical, easy to read, and bolstered by useful charts, tables and exercises that take readers through a step-by-step process of improving their lives. A lack of willpower is one of the greatest barriers to personal change, White argues, and his book offers helpful tips on self-motivation, such as using rituals to promote automatic actions and to encourage good habits. Many other self-help guides have advocated some of the ideas found in this one, including taking control of your life, and have offered similar practical tips, such as: “Buy a journal; and before you go to bed, take a few minutes to reflect on what you feel grateful for that day, and what went right.” But White adds value with an interactive website that has a feature called “Happiness Hacks”––containing 17 helpful reminders for linking happiness and success––and a free mobile app to track one’s happiness level.
A practical, follow-the-recipe approach to a better life, with some helpful Web-based resources for follow-through.
