9780692275917: Unpardonable Sin
When Summer Ends, The Dark Days Begin

Whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Matthew 12:32

Jeffrey Conley sits beside Aunt Jenny at Sunday evening service, the hard wooden bench serving as security in the midst of chaos. He has come home - to a land of loss. Parents, dead. Grandparents, dead. Twin brother, dead two hours after birth. Great-aunts, great-uncles, Aunt Jenny’s husband Lawton, all dead. All decaying in their graves.

But something lives. Something dark. Something evil.

And it wants to drag Jeffrey Conley to Hell.

From the Author:
My goal in writing Unpardonable Sin was to combine the Christian mythos with the Lovecraftean mythos. Obviously something had to give--and in this case Lovecraft's world did most of the giving. In the world of this book, the Christian God is God of the universe, but there are transdimensional realms in which entities exist that in this world would be called "psychopathic." They are powerful, can change shapes, can enter people's dreams, and their real appearance is Cthulhu-like, tentacled, with parts "out of order." In the novel, one of these creatures periodically enters this world through a portal. Since this portal is in the American South, the Bible Belt, the entity learns about the local religion, a version of Fundamentalist Christianity. It then appears to a vulnerable teenager in the form of a demon and attempts to drive the teen to despair and suicide. I label this entity "The Antibeing." The hero, Jeffrey Conley, believes the antibeing to be a demon as described by Christianity. The Antibeing uses Jeffrey's fears that he has committed the unpardonable sin to drive him to despair and guide him to madness and suicide. Yet since God remains in control of the universe, Jeffrey may find he has unexpected help in his battle against the Antibeing. The Antibeing knows of God, calling Him "The Enemy," and believes that God will not interfere in the Antibeing's "game." Yet the Antibeing may discover that is not the case, and a young teen may be a more formidable opponent than he thought.
