9780692747773: LASER SCANNERS: Technologies and Applications: How they work, and how they can work for your product

Synopsis

This book describes a variety of laser scanners and how they might be used to create great products. The author begins by illustrating some existing products that use laser scanners. He then discusses several types of laser scanners and how they can be configured for one-dimensional, two-dimensional and even three-dimensional scanning. This book has a special emphasis on galvanometer-based optical scanners because of their versatility and high optical throughput, although other types of laser scanners are also described including acousto-optic, electro-optic, polygonal, resonant, and MEMS scanners. The author developed ScannerMAX scanners; there are chapters devoted to the design features of these "stronger, cooler, faster" devices. Additional information covers signal connections, projection surfaces, and tips for the process of designing new products in general.

From the Author

For people seeking to learn about laser scanners, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any books that cover laser scanners from both a high-level (how they work, what kind of products they might enable) as well as a low level (scan angles, scan speeds, wavelength capability, cost, etc.)

I wrote this book as a practical guide to help people understand laser scanners well enough to apply them toward the development of new products. For the most part this is a high-level guide, not an in-depth treatise. However this book does go into depth on certain galvanometer-related laser scanning topics.
