Written by a psychotherapist and her client, a survivor of severe childhood trauma who is also a psychotherapist, this engaging case study chronicles their successful healing journey in great detail. Bowker and O’Malley delineate four major themes that describe their experiences and help explain both the complexity of their relationship and what ultimately made healing possible. They blend these overarching ideas with multiple examples, alternately written in the voice of the therapist and of the client followed by clinical discussions. Beyond these four themes, the authors illustrate clearly the centrality of the therapeutic relationship in their healing process. In a highly readable style, and written without jargon, this book is equally valuable to survivors of childhood sexual trauma searching for an understanding of what therapy might look like as well as students and professionals seeking a detailed example of long term trauma
