Rhyming text and illustrations describe the fun of going to school and participating in all the activities.

K This book attempts to reinforce the excitement of a child's first day of school and help to alleviate the child's fears, but it is not successful. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and active. There is much on every page to be visually explored and enjoyed, including classroom activities and playground fun. The rhyming text, though, detracts from the book's appeal. The meter is often forced and distractingly irregular. There are so many other, successful, titles on this theme by the Berenstains, Miriam Cohen, Bernard Wiseman, John Burningham and others, that it is easy to do without this title.
