About the Author

Col. Anthony E. Hartle is the professor of philosophy and a member of the permanent faculty at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has served tours of duty in Okinawa, Korea, and Southeast Asia. As a member of an airborne unit in Vietnam he was wounded and decorated for valor. He also commanded an infantry battalion in the 101st Airborne Division. Hartle is a member of the Executive Board of the Joint Services Conference on Professional Ethics and served as a staff member of the 1986 Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident. He is the coeditor (with John Kekes) of Dimensions of Ethical Thought.
