This true crime case is over 100 years old (the murders having taken place in 1892) and the various options have been openly given as to Lizzie's guilt or innocence. So, you ask, what's so special about this book. Well, the author Mr Sullivan has stuck to the facts; he hasn't done what many do in his place: he hasn't used over-descriptive, romanticised language. Nor has he applied the social standards of his era to the 1890s. Author Robert Sullivan, who was Superior Court Judge in Massachusetts, the same court system which Lizzie was brought before for her trial, had seen many of the versions of the Borden story and turned to the official verbatim transcript to discover the true facts.
