A guide to research and how it is conducted, covering every facet of the research process: finding and defining a suitable problem; performing literature surveys; conducting the research; analyzing the results; and reporting the findings. A particular feature of the book is its concentration on South Africa, in contrast to the European or North American focus. While the research process may be the same in all countries, the system of universities and technikons, funding bodies and the country's needs are different. Examples and case studies used are therefore relevant to the South African reader. The book is divided into five parts, each of which is largely self-contained. Discussion questions and exercises are provided at the end of each chapter. Answers to selected exercises appear in an appendix. The material was successfully course-tested in 1995.
