Synopsis
The problem of the chemical bond of atoms in crystals may be largely considered as a problem of qualitative and quantitative analysis of the electron density distribution and the arrangement of the electrons in the atomic shells. Experimental determination of the spin density in the transition metals or in transition metal compounds often makes it possible to determine the distribution of electrons with uncompensated magnetic moment in the 3d shell. The tables of trigonometric functions for the computation of the electron density distribution in crystals may prove to be an invaluable aid to research workers in solid state physics and chemical bond theory in crystal.
