Part two of a five-part series. Captain Alex Sheridan, of the Native Light Cavalry, has returned to India and John Company's service after the Crimean War. Sedition is rife in the army of Bengal, but most of Sheridan's seniors refuse to heed the warnings. In an attempt to unmask the plotters, Sheridan undertakes the long journey to Meerut, bearing proof of the complicity in the planned revolt of the King of Delhi and his sons. On 10 May 1857, the native regiments rise and the threatened mutinty becomes hideous reality.
