From the Publisher

Critical Acclaim for Marcelle Bernstein's Sacred and Profane

'A psychological thriller and an exploration of prisons both actual and metaphorical... Bernstein writes well about people, and she has a good ear for dialogue.' - The Times

'Mesmerizing ... Nuns and prisoners have much in common ... the close association between the two types of existence form a theme of her brilliant new novel ... a riveting read.' - Manchester Evening News

'Twins are fascinating. They offer a promise of a kind of intimacy only usually experienced by new lovers. But there is also the dread of two people merging so completely that neither knows whose brain had which thought first - or who committed what dreadful act ... This powerful writer drops the reader into the confusion of blurred identity.' - OK Magazine

'Beautifully-crafted ... delicately written but very powerful. Be prepared to care about these women, to become so involved that you don't want the story to end. And be prepared for heart-stopping moments as some bitter truths are revealed.' - Optima

'Every now and then you find a writer with the ability to absorb you totally into her world...' - Woman's Journal

'Mesmerising, brilliant ... a riveting read.' - Manchester Evening News

'A novel with a very clear, if modern, understanding of right and wrong ... shocks and confronts in equal measures.' - Options
