A fantasy woven around the controversial character of Napoleon Bonaparte. On the eve of Waterloo, Napoleon, masquerading as her American husband, comes secretly to London to visit his mistress, Lianne Bude-Caley. He stays the night and misses the battle which is attended by his 'double', the actor Talma, who has been trained to stand in and take over whenever necesary. Thus, it is Talma who is sent to St Helena, while Napoleon plots a comeback. However, he has not reckoned on the strength of the love Lianne bears for him, and returning to France he finds his plans unexpectedly thwarted. This is a most unusual novel which is based partly on fact and thus does give rise to further speculation as to whether Napoleon did actually stay in England. With his excellent give for characterisation, George Sava has succeeded in showing the reader yet another side of this enigmatical personality. Seller Inventory # 002281
