Peter Whitfield is former director of Stanfords International Map Centre in London. The thesis of this book is to bring out something of the wider cultural significance of world maps chosen from different historical periods. Dust jacket has a cut down the middle of the spine about 2 inches from the top, perhaps from opening the book with a knife.
