Synopsis
This compact but encyclopedic dictionary has offered practical help to farmers and owners of stables since the first edition in 1928 and, increasingly over the years, to the owners of an ever wider variety of pets. It has also become a recognized reference book for veterinary surgeons, students and journalists faced with unusual pets and unfamiliar conditions.
Content has been regularly revised, updated, and reorganized, shifting away from the dominant focus on the horse still so relevant in the early editions. With the 18th edition, the range of animals and topics widens further to embrace more detailed legislation, equine motor neuron disease, predetermining the sex of calves and tarantulas.
