Synopsis
This colourful new souvenir guide introduces families and children to some of the most famous and the most unusual objects in the Museum. Richard Woff has run the British Museum's programme for schools and young visitors for many years. This book features nine iconic objects, chosen to appeal to children, and also to act as springboards from which to explore ideas and links throughout the whole museum and across the different periods and cultures of the world. So the Rosetta Stone sets off an exploration of writing in different cultures; a Greek pot painted with a dining scene is linked to other items connected with food and drink around the world; the Lewis chess kings and queens spark an investigation of royalty and rulership from Africa to ancient Rome; and so on. About the Author
Richard Woff is the Head of Schools and Young Audiences Education in the Department of Learning and Information at the British Museum. He is the author of a number of books for children. He was previously Lecturer in Education at the University of London. His publications for children include The Ancient Greek Olympics (BMP 1999) and The Pocket Dictionary of Greek & Roman Gods & Goddesses (BMP 2003).
