In the second-state dustwrapper, with white spine, with an SBN number on the front flap, and with the publisher on the dustwrapper as Calder Boyars rather than John Calder as it is on the first-state dustwrapper. A re-publication of Beckett's 1931 essay on the work of Marcel Proust, together with three dialogues with Georges Duthuit on Modern Art, transcribed from memory in 1949. "Proust" was originally published on its own in the UK by Chatto and Windus in 1931. ***Near fine in burgundy cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright. Boards clean and unmarked. No creases or bumps. Page block edges clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. Pastedown and endpapers clean with no off-setting. Interior pages clean with no foxing. With the John Calder imprint and 'Printed in the Republic of Ireland by Hely Thom Limited, Dublin' at the bottom of the title page. ***In a near fine colour-illustrated second-state dustwrapper, that has not been price-clipped, but with a £2.00p price sticker overlaying the original printed price. As mentioned, the spine of this second-state dustwrapper is white, whereas the first-state dustwrapper has an orange spine. Early SBN number to the bottom of the front flap: 71450033x (the first-state dustwrapper does not have an SBN number). Bottom of spine of dustwrapper states Calder Boyars (the first-state dustwrapper states Calder). The back panel of the second-state dustwrapper has a shorter, different blurb to that of the first-state, complete with some reviews (Please see scans). Dustwrapper complete - just slightly rubbed at the extremities. Back panel slightly discoloured and rubbed (being a white background).
