Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First UK Edition. First impression of the simultaneous first edition in English (also published by the University of California Press in USA in 1970) and the first UK edition. ***Translated by Rupert Copeland Cuningham. ***Jacket design by John Sewell. ***Very good in green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine. Very tiny bump to lower corner-tip of front board. Tiny bump to top corner-tip of rear board. No inscriptions. No foxing to pages (which is unusual for this title). Pages clean. Spine tight. ***In a very good colour-illustrated dustwrapper that has not been price-clipped, showing original dual publisher's price of 50s/£2.50. Edges of dustwrapper slightly creased and rubbed. Short closed tear to top edge of front panel of dustwrapper, adjoining head of spine, with tiny loss. One-inch closed tear and associated creasing to head of spine of dustwrapper, adjoining rear panel. Surface splash mark to middle of spine of dustwrapper not affecting boards or pages. Rear panel of dustwrapper slightly rubbed and discoloured (being plain cream matt background). 210mm x 140mm. 254 pages. ***'Locus Solus, first published in 1914, is perhaps Roussel's most perfect masterpiece. Based, like the earlier Impressions of Africa, on uniquely eccentric principles of composition (which the interested reader will find outlined in Rayner Heppenstall's monograph on Raymond Roussel), this book invites the reader to enter a very special world of the imagination, a hauntingly unforgettable world which in its innocence, extravagance, and deep reasonableness is unlike anything in the literature of the twentieth century.' (Quote from inside front dustwrapper blurb). ***First impression of the first edition in English and first UK edition - hard to find in its original dustwrapper. Scarce. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 4289
