Synopsis
This text seeks to unscramble the current media revolution. After describing the background to the extraordinary convergence of media, and discussing the pioneers of the new media arts and technologies, the authors examine the main building blocks of hypermedia: words; images; sounds; and movement through space and time. With a range of international examples, the authors examine the many applications of hypermedia, illustrating the kinds of interactive products that are being developed in various fields. They provide an outline of hypermedia production to help the reader understand how programmes are planned and produced and go on to a survey of the main hardware available, together with a glossary of terms.

Bob Cotton and Richard Oliver are independent media consultants. They are the authors of Understanding Hypermedia (also published by Phaidon).
