"Unmonumental: The Object in the 21st Century" is the first exhibition in the "Unmonumental" cycle, and explores the reinvention of sculptural assemblage. Using found, fragmented, and discarded materials, the works of the artists on view make a case for modesty, informality, and improvisation. About the Author:
Richard Flood is Chief Curator at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. Laura Hoptman is Senior Curator at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. Massimiliano Gioni is Director of Special Exhibitions at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, and Artistic Director of Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Milan. Trevor Smith is Curator-in-Residence at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
