Richard Taylor is a well-known artist, author and teacher whose previous books include Natural Watercolours and The Watercolourist's Guide to Painting Buildings (David & Charles) and The Watercolourist's Year (HarperCollins), His articles have appeared in a number of leading UK art techniques magazines, including Artists and Illustrators. The Artist and Leisure Painter. He is also the consultant editor on The Art Course, a major new art techniques partwork.
Observation-based drawing skills are the foundation of Taylor's Creative Drawing Course, which provides a thorough discussion of line, tone, shape, form, and shadowing, with clear instructions well enhanced by black-and-white and full-color illustrations. After exploring the properties of different papers, Taylor concentrates in the second section on the visual and physical energies used in the act of drawing. Finally, he combines observation skills with the energized approach to "direct drawing," a fear-free, immediate reaction to the subject at hand. Whitney Scott
