The Shaker Garden provides a practical guide to creating a beautiful and productive garden, or adapting part of an existing design. Sound horticultural information combines with step by step projects, including building raised beds, creating a birdhouse, making wooden seed trays and recipes for herb flavored honey and edible flower salads. this book is an invitation to simplify, to sweep away the clutter and use natural methods and materials to create a gardein that is a rich source of food and a calm oasis for relaxation.

Stephanie Donaldson has run the vegetable garden on an organic farm and also managed a large formal garden for eight years. She lives next to the sea on the south coast of England where the mild climate allows her to experiment with growing Mediterranean plants.

From the Publisher:
Americaıs Shakers were careful and caring gardeners, each village community growing their fruit, herbs, flowers, and vegetables organically and sustainably. In the 21st century, we still have much to learn from the Shaker approach to gardening. This splendid guide now shows you how to create a beautiful and productive garden in the Shaker tradition, either from scratch or from an existing scheme. Sound horticultural information includes natural gardening methods that are as relevant today as they were 250 years ago, along with advice on choosing plants that are as productive as they are ornamental. Among the dozens of step-by-step projects are simple structures, raised beds, decorative elements, and recipes for herb-flavored honey and salads of edible flowers. Brimming with glorious color photographs, The Shaker Garden is an invitation to simplify: to use natural methods and materials to create a garden that is a rich source of sustenance, beauty, and serenity.
