Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Reprint. Hardback. Very slight foxing to edge. Slight shelf wear to edges of D/J. The first Promenade concerts or 'Proms' as they later became, were performed in London during the early years of the nineteenth century. They were a nationalistic idea that has now become an international phenomenon. For concert goers and music-lovers the Proms have become a familiar way of life. The earliest Proms were performed in London theatres and even in public houses like the famous Crown and Anchor. By 1895 they had become popular enought to start a regular repertoire at the Queens Hall London. The conductor was the young Henry Wood - a name which has become synonymous with the Proms. After the war the concerts were transferred to the Royal Albert Hall where they have continued ever since to draw large audiences. This is the first comprehensive anbd detailed book ever to be written on the subject. The carefully selected illustrations integrated with the text makes this a book for the prommers, music-lovers and indeed all who are interested in the way the performance and listening to music has affected the lives of so many. Illustrated. 192 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).
