Hardcover. Condition: Used: Acceptable. Condition good with dj. ref ZKVQ John Yardley is one of Britain's contemporary Impressionists, with a rare ability to convey all the atmosphere of a scene with a few well-placed brushstrokes. In the few years since he gave up a career in banking to paint full time, his reputation has grown rapidly and his pictures are shown in galleries and private collections across the country, with a number of his exhibitions selling out in hours. In this comprehensive collection of the artist's work, Ron Ranson, himself a watercolourist and teacher, provides evidence that Yardley is a worthy successor to Edward Seago. He has selected a wide range of subject matter, from sunlit gardens and Italian piazzas to cool, understated interiors, still lifes and flower paintings. In every one, the artist's powers of observation and his ability to capture the essential elements and spirit of his subject are apparent. In his own style, Ron Ranson describes Yardley's momentous change of career and examines his motivation and his simple yet effective techniques. His book provides an introduction to the work of a rare talent. Seller Inventory # 35756

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. A Very Good Copy in a Very Good Dust-Jacket,price clipped with NO previous names or inscriptions present. This title was acquired from the Library of Northern Artist Robert Easton 1936-2023. Bob Eaton was a respected Northern artist whose large catalogue of work reflected a number of painting styles that mainly captured the changing industrial and rural landscapes of North East Lancashire. His early love of art saw him trained at Accrington Art College in the 1950s and following his Army Service he became a secondary school art teacher in Accrington. Bob gained a growing reputation locally for his work, but he also exhibited Nationally at the Royal Academy in London and at an exhibition of British Artists at the Louvre in Paris in the 1970s.After retiring from teaching there followed a forty year period of prolific output that coincided with an increasing reluctance to sell his work or have any interest in the business side of the art world. This period of deliberate retreat from public recognition conversely saw him in regular correspondence with a number of famous artists of the time. This thirst for knowledge was supplemented by the purchase of a diverse library of hundreds of quality art books, used by him for reference, learning and for the pleasure of reading and examining the artists' work.A prolific collector of books; a visitor of galleries and an exchanger of ideas with some of the greats of 20th century British Art. He was a lifelong true lover of his subject. Foremost however, he was also a very capable and talented practitioner in his own right, painting from hundreds of sketches made in all weathers on the dark fields and streets of his native county. Shunning the limelight that his ability probably warranted, he leaves behind him, a considerable and interesting library of books and a large catalogue of excellent paintings, hidden from the public for four decades and which exists largely intact following his death in 2023.The book has a firm binding and with no hinge weakness.Illustrated throughout in colour.4to landscape Format First Edition 1st Impression [1990].
