[J.R. de S. Honey, Times Educational Supplement]; 'People do not change much over the centuries, as Ian Gibson points out in his splendid new book, The English Vice. For the authentic material alone, this book, which has to be the definitive book on the subject, would be valuable, but he also writes clearly and with style.'
