Fenton Rumplemayer, his friends, and a stray dog help Dr. Rumplemayer identify some mysterious dinosaur bones from Sleeping Bear Mountain

Grade 4-5?Fenton Rumplemayer, 11, amateur detective and dinosaur fanatic, attempts to discover the identity of a mysterious skeleton found by his paleontologist father as well as decide what to do with a stray dog that has adopted him. Deductive reasoning and a convenient accident bring about a happy, but pat, ending. While dogs, dinos, and mysteries are attention-grabbing themes, this book is not likely to maintain the interest of most readers. Characters are poorly drawn, dialogue is stilted, and the story is full of factual information that's ineffectively superimposed on the plot. Black-and-white sketches are scattered throughout. A disappointing effort.?Cynthia M. Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukee, OR
