Synopsis
Gaelic football is by far the most popular sport in Ireland in terms of participation, attendance at games and public interest. This book contains 30 great games, played since 1955, bringing them back to life. The first game covered in this book is the 1955 All-Ireland Final in which Kerry shocked favourites Dublin to record one of the "most famous" victories. That was the great clash of styles: Kerry relying on their traditional catch-and-kick and Dublin coming out on top through their revolutionary short-passing game built around a new concept - a "roving" full-forward called Kevin Heffernan. The period since 1955 saw many historic landmarks in Gaelic football such as first Ulster titles for Derry, Tyrone, Donegal and Down; Down becoming the first team from the Six Counties to win the All-Ireland success; and the incredible Meath-Dublin Leinster saga of 1991. The book deals with all these notable events.
