Hardcover. Condition: Like New. Dust Jacket Condition: Like New. Dust jacket condition: Like New. 180 pages : illustrations. Appears as new and unread. For almost thirty years, Kevin C. Kearns has been exploring the urban landscape of inner-city Dublin. His many oral histories, most notably the bestselling Dublin Tenement Life, amount to a unique chronicle of Dublin city life in recent generations. In these books the working-class people of inner-city Dublin speak with their own voices. During all his visits to Dublin, Kevin Kearns has taken photographs as well as oral evidence. Out of his huge collection of prints he has now made a selection of the best to provide a visual chronicle of Dublin inner-city life over the past generation. In sharp contrast to standard Dublin photographic books that feature famous places and personages, this is a âÂÂgrass-roots?? collection that portrays common people going about their ordinary daily life. There is a gritty reality in the faces of weathered street dealers, crusty horse traders, gang kids, street buskers, pavement gamblers, and frolicking kids. Streets Broad and Narrow is published as the city is being transformed out of recognition. Much that is old and decayed is being swept away, but old neighbourhoods are going too, and with them something vital and humane in the life of the city. Kevin Kearnsâ new book is a visual chronicle of a vanishing world that uniquely captures the real soul and spirit of DublinâÂÂs inner-city life. Dublin (Ireland) -- History. Ireland -- Dublin.
