Synopsis
The Patternamster is dying. He rules his own race of selectively bred, psionically powerful patternists, who in turn dominate the non-telepathic, servile 'mutes'. A hostile third race -the mutant cannibal Clayarks- prey on the wastes between the cities.
Now a successor must come forward to rule the pattern and carry on the ruthless war against the Clayarks.
