Synopsis
Fascinating biography of Henry Booth, an important figure in the development of the railway. Booth was Secretary and Treasurer of the London & Manchester Railway, a partner with the Stephensons in the development of the Rocket, developed the multi-tubular boiler which underlay the Rocket's success at the Rainhill trials, pushed for the adoption of Greenwich Mean Time as the standard railway time across the country. He finished his career as the Northern Secretary of the London & North Western Railway. Booth was also very interested in politics and solving the problems of poverty. Illustrated with black and white photos, drawings, and maps. 232 pages.
