Since its original publication in 1960, Orthodontic Notes has developed into an essential companion for dental undergraduates. Intended as an introduction to the subject, the essentials of orthodontic theory and technique are presented in a clear andconcise fashion and should form a sound basis not only for the undergraduate but also for those who wish to undertake a more in-depth study of this area of dentistry.

For this new edition there have been significant improvements, with a number of the existing chapters having been either updated or rewritten. In addition, three new chapters have been added. The revised and expanded text takes account of the changesthat have occurred in the specialty over the last decade but the tradition of simplicity has been maintained. Initially conceived by Professor Walther, who used his lecture notes as a framework for the first edition, the book was subsequently updated byProfessor Houston, who placed his own mark on this, now standard, work. In recognition of this contribution, the current editors have requested that the title now incorporate both names.
