These papers are based on case studies from around the world. They focus on how to learn from failures of constructed environments (from serviceability to catastrophic), and on the implications for professionals with responsibilities for designing, assessing and maintaining structures and buildings of any age or size. This volume illustrates that through analysis, example and dissemination, forensic engineering can benefit the community by reduction in property damage, serious injury, or even loss of lives. The outcomes of investigations can also be used as the basis of discussions on suitable levels of safety and then fed into codes, including the developing Eurocodes, to help prevent or mitigate particular types of failures in the future.
