After her lover, impetuous young Gerard de Arnay, is killed in a riding accident, Jenny Heron makes her way to England. Though she will never forget her first love -- indeed, while she carries his child he cannot be forgotten -- she is determined to put the heartbreak she suffered in the Loire Valley behind her.

But the events surrounding Jenny's own birth remain clouded in mystery, and when the mysterious Philip Allington reappears, and insists that she reestablishes contact with her Cornish grandmother, she is unable to resist untangling the secrets of her past.

About the Author:
Linda Sole is the well-loved author of over forty novels. She lives in Cambridge, but loves to spend as much time as possible in the sunshine of Spain, where she walks, swims and sits in the evening sun to write her stories of love, romance and the darker side of human relationships.
From Booklist:
This sequel to Sole's The Rose Arch [BKL S 15 01] brings the travails of young Jenny Heron, whose lover, Gerard, has been killed in a riding accident, to a happily-ever-after conclusion. Arriving in London with Marie, her late mother's maid and now her companion, Jenny is relentlessly pursued by the mysterious gentleman who had so disturbed her in France. When Philip Allington finally catches up with her, he informs her that she does have a grandmother who lives in Cornwall and wants to see her. Arriving in Cornwall, she meets a stationmaster who fills her with foreboding, his mentally disabled son, and her grandmother, who provides revelations about her origins that change her life. Meanwhile, Gerard appears in her dreams and warns her of dangers, and hidden letters that explain all are brought to light. As a spooky sense of impending doom grows in suitably gothic tradition, Jenny finds friendship and love that will lead to a blissful ending following a violent and exciting climax.
