Wealthy Sir Digby Kirtling is hosting a party to unveil his newest acquisition--a realistic copy of Renoir's The Luncheon of the Boating Party but with the figures in the painting modeled after Sir Digby's friends. The celebration is dampened considerably, however, when the body of Sir Digby's beautiful young assistant, Una May, is discovered. Crime-scene investigator Sukey Reynolds is summoned to gather the forensic evidence that will help her lover, DC Jim Castle, find the villain. The police interview all of the party guests, but Sir Digby moves to the top of their suspect list when they find out Una was three months pregnant with his child. Despite Jim's warning to stick to forensics and stay out of official police business, Sukey places her life in danger to expose the real murderer, once again proving she's every bit as good a detective as a "real cop."
