A delightful new novel from a well-loved author When Nora Malone first sees the Manoir at Lapantelle, recently bequeathed to her, she is still recovering from the death of her adored father, Paddy. A successful racehorse-trainer in Ireland, he had brought her up single-handedly since her French mother abandoned them both, and he was the only man in Nora's life -with the possible exception of the stud's manager, Liam. But the Manoir has a unique charm and an intriguing history, and Nora is soon caught up in her new French milieu - particularly when she meets her American neighbours, a mother and son whose lives are soon entangled with her own. Gradually, she breaks free of Paddy's spell and embraces her independence - though at heart she knows Marchmount will always be her home.

Frances Paige won the Romantic Novelists Award in 1974 for her book Vote for a Silk Gown. Since then she has written many more novels, mostly set in either Scotland or France, all of which have been hugely popular.
After her French mother left when Nora Malone was 10, she became her Irish father's darling. As the years went by, she played the privileged daughter of a racehorse trainer, presiding at Paddy's side over events on the track and at home with a superior air until his death. Liam, the boy next door and stable manager, keeps the place running while Nora fulfills her father's last wish and travels to France to see the events at Chantilly track. Alone and adrift, Nora has to find her own way and her own life sans her father, with whom she had an almost unnatural closeness, so she decides to investigate the home her mother bequeathed her, a manor near Chartes. Soon she meets interesting people, renews her relationship with her mother, and discovers that what she's been looking for has been under her nose all along in this Nora-come-lately, coming-of-age story.
